Is there a witch hunt against Rotimi Amaechi?

Transport minister and former governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi is a controversial political figure who attracts great controversy, but is their an organised political witch hunt against him? Is he being shielded by President Muhammadu Buhari?

Tope Michael examines the case. Whenever the military officers and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party who looted the national wealth are exposed, invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or charged to court, some hack writers are quick to accuse the Buhari government of political witchhunt and selective persecution. In particular, the government of President Buhari is accused of shielding Mr Rotimi Amaechi from prosecution. While not defending Buhari or Amaechi, it is necessary to point out that the Wike government in Rivers state has been challenged by Amaechi to charge him to court if he has evidence that he stole a dime while he was governor of Rivers state for eight years.

Amaechi Minister Amaechi has close links with President Buhari Since Governor Wike set up a judicial commission of enquiry which probed and indicted Amaechi why has he not directed his Attorney General to file charges against Amaechi in the high court of Rivers state? Similarly, after his inauguration in October 2014 the lousy Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose accused ex-governor Kayode Fayemi of building a N3 billion governor’s lodge in a poor state like Ekiti.

Read what Nigerians are saying But instead of converting the lavish mansion into a 5-star hotel at Ado Ekiti Mr Fayose is presently living in the place. What a hypocrite! The fellow too has cried out that Dr Fayemi looted the treasury of the poor state. Since Mr. Fayose claims to have evidence of Dr. Fayemi’s looting spree why has he not directed his Attorney-General of Ekiti State to drag the ex-governor to the high court in Ekiti state for corruption?
