Ekiti state government calls for arrest of APC chairman




 
Ekiti state government calls for the arrest of the state APC chairman and four other members of the APC for their alleged involvement in the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Mrs Julianah Adewumi – The call for the arrest of the APC members was made by the Ekiti state attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, Mr Owoseni Ajayi, in a letter to the IGP dated July 8, 2016 
The government claims the Ekiti state command of the Nigerian Police has refused to the arrest of the defendants Ekiti state government has written to the inspector general of police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, calling for the immediate arrest of the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Jide Awe and other members of the party for alleged murder.

The state claimed that APC chairman and four other members of the APC, namely Faboro John, Aniramu Basiru, Falayi Busuyi and Owonifari Sefiu should be arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Mrs Julianah Adewumi as well as attempted murder of Chief Clement Awoyelu, Gbenga Ogundana Adewumi and Chief Boluwaji Adewumi (aka Oba Odo) in Erinjiyan-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on March 30, 2013.
It added that the others; Hon Boluwade, Ilesanmi Peter, Adedayo Kehinde, Afolabi Bayo Isola, Babalola Olomi, Malomo Alaba, Saidi Yinusa, Ayo Famoduro and Olawumi Fagborila are wanted for alleged involvement in the murder of Foluso Ogundare on November 3, 2013 at Emure Ekiti in Emure Local. The call for the arrest of the APC members was made by the Ekiti state attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, Mr Owoseni Ajayi, in a letter to the IGP dated July 8, 2016. Ajayi also copied to the attorney general of the federation, National Human Rights Commission and the Ekiti state commissioner of police.

Part of the letter stated that the murder and attempted murder cases pending before the High Courts of Ekiti state has almost been frustrated because of the non-availability of the defendants despite several requests by the Ekiti state government to the state command of the Nigeria Police to arrest the suspects. The government claimed the Ekiti state command of the Nigerian Police has refused to effect the arrests of the defendants on the ground that such arrests should not be made except with the approval of the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja. Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, cannot determine how it operates. Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of the anti-graft agency said this in response to the governor’s accusation that the agency is fighting its anti-graft war through “trial and error”, The Cable reports. He said Fayose has no business with how the EFCC runs its operation.
