Ekiti state government calls for the
arrest of the state APC chairman and four other members of the APC for their
alleged involvement in the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Mrs Julianah Adewumi –
The call for the arrest of the APC members was made by the Ekiti state
attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, Mr Owoseni Ajayi, in a letter to
the IGP dated July 8, 2016
The state claimed that APC chairman
and four other members of the APC, namely Faboro John, Aniramu Basiru, Falayi
Busuyi and Owonifari Sefiu should be arrested for their alleged involvement in
the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Mrs Julianah Adewumi as well as attempted murder
of Chief Clement Awoyelu, Gbenga Ogundana Adewumi and Chief Boluwaji Adewumi
(aka Oba Odo) in Erinjiyan-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on March 30, 2013.
It added that the others; Hon
Boluwade, Ilesanmi Peter, Adedayo Kehinde, Afolabi Bayo Isola, Babalola Olomi,
Malomo Alaba, Saidi Yinusa, Ayo Famoduro and Olawumi Fagborila are wanted for
alleged involvement in the murder of Foluso Ogundare on November 3, 2013 at
Emure Ekiti in Emure Local. The call for the arrest of the APC members was made
by the Ekiti state attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, Mr Owoseni
Ajayi, in a letter to the IGP dated July 8, 2016. Ajayi also copied to the
attorney general of the federation, National Human Rights Commission and the
Ekiti state commissioner of police.
Part of the letter stated that the
murder and attempted murder cases pending before the High Courts of Ekiti state
has almost been frustrated because of the non-availability of the defendants
despite several requests by the Ekiti state government to the state command of
the Nigeria Police to arrest the suspects. The government claimed the Ekiti
state command of the Nigerian Police has refused to effect the arrests of the
defendants on the ground that such arrests should not be made except with the
approval of the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja. Meanwhile, the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti
state, cannot determine how it operates. Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of the
anti-graft agency said this in response to the governor’s accusation that the
agency is fighting its anti-graft war through “trial and error”, The Cable
reports. He said Fayose has no business with how the EFCC runs its operation.
